Sonoran Desert Boa
The Sonoran Desert boa is actually a Mexican form of the Boa constrictor
imperator. Found mostly in the Northern fringe of the Sonoran Desert of
Mexico, these boas rarely get above 1,5 meter (120 – 240 centimeters),
with some reaching sexual maturity at 1,2 meter. Larger Sonoran boas are
uncommon, but possible. It is the northernmost living boa.
Sonoran Desert boas tend to be very dark as adults, with some beautiful
patterning and coloration with pink, grey, and often bluish highlights.
Some Sonorans can be almost black as adults. Typical coloration is
grayish above with dark to light brown saddle-like patterns, and their
tail has brown to reddish saddles on its upper surface and is a darker
color than most Boa constrictor individuals, but these colors and
patterns can be quite variable. Most often their bellies are a lovely
salmon-pink or peach color with a few speckles. On the face, they have a
distinct Boa constrictor marking on the front of the mouth, with a dark
line that passes through the eye and along the side of the face.
